"You also want to consider making things portable," Durham says. Pack pretty baskets with the paraphernalia you'll need for an on-the-spot diaper change, and leave one in each room.
She also advises her new-parent clients to invest in a few archival-quality boxes to give keepsakes, like baby's first booties or her hospital bracelet, an instant home. Clear plastic bins are great for keeping clothes and toys contained; just slip an index card in the side of the box for an easy-to-read label.
To reward yourself for your efforts and give yourself a concrete stopping point, piggyback it onto a fun activity, says Ecker. "Make plans in advance to meet your husband for lunch at the caf矤own the street at 4:30, or buy tickets for a movie," she says.
